MATH 252 - CALCULUS WITH ANALYTIC GEOMETRY
III (FALL 2008)
Announcements
¥ SO WHAT HAPPENED?
On Tuesday, 12/18, from about 5:50pm to 7:05pm,
Mesa College and its Clairemont environs had a blackout. Our class did not meet
to take the final or the last chapter test. The lights did come back on at
about 7:05pm, and I felt stupid at first, but I remembered that President
Cepeda had already closed the campus, so no exams could be administered,
anyway.
¥ WHAT ABOUT OUR
GRADES?
Everyone gets the maximum number of points for the
Chapter 18 quiz (105), the Final (60), the last homework (10), and Class Participation
(40). If you are not a borderline case (and you don't have makeups to do or old
HWs to give me), you should know your grade. If you are a borderline case, I
will look at my rosters.
¥ I'M CURIOUS HOW I
WOULD HAVE DONE. COULD I SEE THE TESTS?
This is like Deal or No Deal, when they do the "what ifs?" We can
compromise on this - I can show you the tests during my visiting hours on Wed.
(3:50-5:50pm) or on Thurs. (4-8pm), or even during the next term. You can even
take them at no penalty / no risk, and I might be able to guesstimate grades at
some point, after I am done with all of my formal grading. At this time, I
don't want to make any electronic forms of the exams, because I spent a lot of
time writing them and the solutions, and I'd like to keep the possibility of
using questions later.
¥ WHAT ABOUT MY OTHER
CLASSES?
Check with your instructors! As far as I know,
only myself and another instructor are doing something like this with the
grades. Don't assume other instructors will do the same thing!
¥ WILL TEACHER SLEEP
WELL TONIGHT?
Very well. First off, teacher has gotten little
sleep (haha). But seriously, you were a great class. The exams this year were
at least as challenging as the ones in previous years. I don't know of a fairer
solution.
¥ WHEN CAN I FIND OUT
ABOUT MY GRADES?
You can email me if you lost some of your scores.
I will flag email requests for grades, but I might not respond until after ALL
of my grades are done for ALL of my classes. Other classes had their finals!
Grades are due from faculty on January 4, 2008.
¥ WHAT IF I HAVE A
MAKEUP FOR AN OLD EXAM SCHEDULED FOR WED. OR THURS.?
As far as I know, my Wed. 12/19 (3:50-5:50pm) and
Thurs. 12/20 (2:30-5pm) hours are still good.
¥ WHAT IF I HAVE OLD
HOMEWORKS TO GIVE YOU?
I may be able to give you partial credit on these.
Give them to me in person during my Wed. and Thurs. hours, or put them in my
box by Thurs. (12/20) at 5pm.
¥ HOW DO I CONTACT YOU
OTHERWISE?
¥ Email me, though I may have to flag your email
and get back to you later. Email me
¥ You are welcome to contact me in future
semesters and summers, as well.
¥ See me during my Wed. 12/19 (3:50-5:50pm) and
Thurs. 12/20 (2:30-5pm) hours. I will be giving makeups on Thurs., though, so I
can't engage in long, loud conversations.
¥ Check my website in January for my campus visits
in January, and also for my office hours for next semester.
¥ WILL YOU BE GOING
"AWAY"?
Yes, I will be out of town for most of the
upcoming two weeks. I'm taking other classes' finals hostage with me. Email may
be spotty.
¥ CAN WE STILL USE THE
WEBSITE?
Sure. Spread the word. Copy whatever you want.
¥ HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
